Presentation Session 2

This presentation discusses the important roles of cybersecurity and artificial intelligence (AI) in biomedical computational research and biomedical computing, more broadly. It begins with a brief overview of the fields of cybersecurity and AI. Then, focus turns to how these areas affect all types of research and activities before focusing in on their uses and importance to biomedical research and other biomedical computing uses. Particular focus is given to how AI can support biomedical research and how practitioners can use AI in a variety of biomedical-related application areas. The importance of cybersecurity to biomedical research and all forms of biomedical practice are discussed. The role of AI in cybersecurity for these application areas is briefly elaborated on and the need to ensure the cybersecurity of AI systems is also covered. With these topics covered, focus then turns to ongoing work in AI and cybersecurity that may provide a strong foundation for collaboration with researchers in the biomedical space. Two case studies from prior projects are briefly discussed and several potential areas of future collaboration will be mentioned. The presentation conclude by discussing several areas of planned future work and their potential for regional collaborations.
