State steering committee
The ND EPSCoR State Steering Committee is composed of individuals with representation from the North Dakota State Board of Higher Education; legislative branches; North Dakota Commerce and Public Instruction Departments; tribal colleges/universities, primarily undergraduate institutions, master’s college/university, and research university campuses; as well as private businesses and research university technology parks.
The committee's directives are to:
-
Lead a collaborative effort to develop, compile, and routinely review a State Science and Technology (S&T) Plan that summarizes the research, education, broadening participation in STEM, and workforce development strengths of the state and that provides methods to bring the outcomes of state and federal investments to a commercially viable end.
-
Stay up to date on all federal and state research investments and identify research and development areas within the higher education system that are consistent with the S&T Plan.
-
Understand the state’s dynamic ecosystem of research and serve as a collaborator and partner in current NSF EPSCoR programs.
-
Routinely conduct an evidence-based, comprehensive analysis of the state’s Research & Development (R&D) strengths, opportunities that exist to further develop R&D capacity at NDUS and NDTCS institutions, and challenges that must be overcome to take advantage of those opportunities.
-
Evaluate ongoing research efforts as well as establish potential new research directions and their alignment with the STEM research priorities identified in the S&T Plan.
-
Function as a liaison to state stakeholders in communicating the value of research and economic development from the university systems.
Per its bylaws, the Committee may have up to 15 members who each serve five-year terms.
