A solar powered, 3-D Printed Automatic Weather Station (PAWS) has been placed within the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indian reservation to monitor the local weather patterns while also testing the durability of the prototype in north central North Dakota. Through collaboration between Turtle Mountain Community High School (TMCHS), North Dakota State University (NDSU), Assistant Director & Research Facilitator-Nick Dusek, and Turtle Mountain Community College (TMCC), Engineering Instructor-Dr. Austin Allard, we assembled a 3D-PAWS on the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians reservation. A National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Weather Service (NWS) station, located within 10 miles of the site, will be a source of certified weather data to compare the 3D PAWS data collected. The 3D PAWS’s may be used to develop a weather observation network with the intended purpose to reduce weather related risks.
