Community Data Preparation of Reddit Eating Disorders Communities

Eating disorders are serious diseases that can cause some of the following effects: body image problems, digestive problems, organ failures, and, at extreme, deaths. The lack of public datasets dedicated to eating disorders hinders the development of large language model technology for eating disorder users. To prepare such a dataset, submissions and comments pertaining to eating disorders are extracted from Reddit, filtered and rephrased. The similarity and faithfulness computations are calculated to measure how close the original and rephrased submission-and-comment pairs are. Finally, to the best of our knowledge, the first public dataset for eating disorders is generated with 6,153 question-answer pairs in professional tone and 4,560 question-answer pairs in casual tone.
