Affordable and sustainable bioscaffolds are critical for advancing cancer research and tissue engineering. In previous work, we developed soft scaffolds with a high content of sodium alginate (SA). Building on this, the present study explores the use of arabinoxylan derived from wheat bran (WBAX) as the primary scaffold component, combined with collagen (C) and SA in varying ratios (1:1:1, 2:1:1, and 3:1:1), to evaluate their potential to support cell growth. The scaffolds were systematically characterized for structural integrity, hydrophilicity, and their biocompatibility was assessed using a patient-derived xenograft (PDX) breast cancer cell line. Notably, the WBAX: C: SA= 1:1:1 scaffold demonstrated the best performance, supporting PDX cell survival for up to 22 days. These findings highlight arabinoxylan-rich scaffolds as promising low-cost biomaterials with strong potential for translational cancer research and tumor modeling applications.
