Teaching Green and Sustainable Chemistry: What Should Organic Chemistry Students Learn?

The American Chemical Society (ACS) now requires that students attending ACS-certified institutions learn about green chemistry and have a working knowledge of the twelve green chemistry principles upon graduation. However, the specific integration and course-level expectations remain undefined. To help answer this question, we employed the Delphi Method to survey organic chemistry faculty in order to identify the green and sustainable chemistry knowledge and skills that they expect students to gain within the traditional organic chemistry sequence. This poster will highlight the key preliminary findings from this study.
